Inspiring the Lamp Posts we sell
There’s no better place to appreciate the sights, sounds and more importantly architectural ironwork than in our beloved capital of culture.. London! Here we have some of the highlights of the capitals oldest and greatest in original Victorian lighting, which continues to inspire us in our ever growing collection we lovingly create. Without this period inspiration, our lamp posts would surely not be on sale. Our journey starts in Blackheath, a chic and stylish suburb with a relaxed atmospheric vibe, in the South East of London.
Blackheath, London
The Heath for which Blackheath is most famous for is home to an array of Georgian and Victorian properties. At the edge of the heath, we found a terrific example of a cast iron lamp post featuring a cylindrical copper lantern. The lantern featured a delightful decorative copper beading, clearly an original bespoke design.
Covent Garden, London
From the sunny suburbs to the bustling centre, our journey now takes us to one of the most famous landmarks in London, Covent Garden. Covent Garden, a haven of shops, bars and restaurants only a stone's throw away from the renowned landmark Trafalgar Square.
Covent Garden’s architectural lighting formed part of the inspiration for our Belgravia lighting collection. Shown below is an original lamppost design still seen in Covent Garden today.

Whilst enjoying the energy and jazz of Covent Garden we stopped to appreciate the original Victorian wall lanterns which surround the square.
Using extended brackets these lanterns provide light where floor mounting is just not an option. From years of foundry expertise, we’ve uniquely used the inspiration from various types of Victorian architectural lighting to recreate our wall mounted light collection.
An original from Convent Garden’s period lighting array is featured below:
From London to St Tropez
Our never-ending quest for architectural perfection is far from limited to the British Isles. Below features lampposts we’ve seen in the south of France, to be a little more precise St Tropez.
Despite the blue waters, yachts and private villas, the traditional cast iron street lighting left slot to be desired! The first image is shown below, although manufactured from cast iron, lacked any architectural design flare, to say the least, it was a little bland! Certainly not the sort of Lamp Post you would expect to see on sale by English Lamp Posts.
Despite the superb food, fine wine and clear skies their wall mounted lanterns had the same sorry story, built to last and purposely functional but nothing compared to the traditional Victorian lamps we lovingly recreate.
London Cathedrals
London is blessed with some of the most spectacular and grand lighting in the country. Shown here is a small Cathedral located just off Oxford Street, a hidden gem as it were. This Cathedral lantern is manufactured from sheet copper squares, used to form a straight edged spherical design.
This divine lantern is accompanied by ornate scroll ladder bars, shown here in cast iron. This lantern could provide the inspiration for our remodelled hexagon design.
To the quaint streets of Polperro
It seems even the small coastal villages like Polperro in Devon (shown below), are not without their own Victorian-inspired wall lighting!
The British Museum
Located in the very heart of London, the British Museum has been open to the public for over 250 years. It contains some of the most treasured and rare historical artefacts in the world, including the Rosetta Stone and a large collection of the original Parthenon structure.
